Exposed to computers at a young age, Ashwan was not only interested in coding but was drawn to the science behind things. He tinkers with Raspberry Pi even now. With a keen interest in design, mathematics and statistics, he studied architecture after school. Following a brief stint at a reputed architecture firm in India, Ashwan moved to the US to pursue a Master of Science degree in Informatics and Architecture—a course that offered the best of both worlds—from the renowned Rensselaer Institute.
Post graduation, Ashwan moved to New York City and joined IOMEDIA as a senior interactive developer, designing 3D models of large-scale international infrastructure and real estate projects. He later moved to India to expand the US-based company. In 18 years—16 at IOMEDIA and the past two at Ticketmaster India—Ashwan has worked his way up. From studio director to VP, Technology Development to SVP, Research and Development and now the MD of IOMEDIA India—a division of Ticketmaster post-acquisition in 2018. During this journey, Ashwan has handled numerous blockbuster projects, including designing for the US Senate Museum and leading the award-winning Virtual Venue product.
With technology and design as his expertise, Ashwan brings his unique knowledge and capabilities to foster a culture of collaboration between the engineering side of Ticketmaster India and product design and development. He likes to get to the root of the challenges his teams face so he can truly understand what he’s trying to solve. “The only way to stay ahead of the curve is by getting into the thick of things!” says Ashwan. He also advocates constantly challenging oneself to innovate. He strongly believes in processes as a developer but frowns upon following processes blindly without the thought or insight to make them better through innovation.
A traveller at heart, Ashwan likes visiting places that have historical, cultural and architectural significance. One of his favourites is Machu Picchu in Peru. Even with the little time he has, Ashwan never takes a direct flight to his destinations—he makes pit-stops to explore. He loves travelling to off-beat locations with his wife because then, he finds his muse to pursue his other interest, photography. He’s a binge-watcher of Netflix when series such as Chernobyl, Black Mirror or Stanger Things drop; he believes the definition of work-life-balance comes alive when people feel that their passion and work go hand-in-hand.
In the two decades of his career, he has combined his background in architecture, design and technology to build and manage innovative products and companies.
